What is ADAS calibration?

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems use cameras, radar and other sensors to interpret the vehicle’s surroundings. Calibration establishes the correct alignment or reference values for those systems, using the procedure specified for the particular vehicle.

When might a vehicle need calibration?

  • After windshield or forward-camera replacement.
  • Following collision repairs that affect sensor mounting or vehicle geometry.
  • After certain alignment, suspension or ride-height changes.
  • When a camera, radar unit or related component is replaced.

Not every repair requires the same work. The manufacturer’s current repair information determines whether static calibration, dynamic calibration or a combination is needed.

A considered approach

A service plan starts with the vehicle’s year, make, model, installed systems and repair history. Precondition checks, diagnostic information and the appropriate calibration environment all contribute to the process. Follow-up checks depend on the vehicle and procedure.

What to have ready

Bring any repair or glass-replacement records, warning messages and the vehicle details. These help identify the next step and whether other issues need attention before calibration.
